Dear Members,

“Wish You All a Very Happy New Year-2019”

Vascular Society of India and IJVES are progressing rapidly, thanks to the enthusiasm of the members and ebullient VSI Board and Editorial Board of IJVES.

VSICON 2018 was a grand success, thanks to the Organising Team lead by Dr. Gurujit Singh and Dr. Arvind Kohli. Around 400 delegates participated and more than 120 papers were presented. All the papers submitted by Vascular PG's were presented in the “Rapid Fire Session”. Best Paper Award Session was highly competitive and of high quality as endorsed by Overseas Judges for the Session.

2018 also has been a remarkable year for VSI, Prof. T. Vidyasagaran taking over as Secretary General of WFVS, Capt.V.S. Bedi, Councillor, WFVS and Capt. Kumud Rai-Councillor, ESVS. Our Editor in Chief, IJVES, Dr.K.R. Suresh has taken an active role in the formation of Global Vascular Guidelines by WFVS.

We had the Indian Global Village at ESVS 2018, Valencia, Spain, which was appreciated by the ESVS and the delegates from all over the world. Our Power Point Presentation on the Training Schedule for Vascular Trainees is now recognized and appreciated as one of the strict Schedules in the Vascular Speciality.

Institutions for Higher Speciality-Vascular Training has doubled in 2018. Every year 33 new Vascular Trainees are enrolled all over India for the course. VSI expects the numbers to increase to 50 by the year 2020. India needs more than hundred Vascular Surgeons to cover both Tier I and Tier II cities India.

Foundations have been laid for the revised and expanded “Hand Book of Vascular Surgery by VSI” under my supervision. Prof. Unnikrishnan, President-elect has taken over the responsibility of starting VSI Registries. The plan is to present VSI Registry and data on two to four vascular procedures at VSICON 2019, Hyderabad.

Our Secretary Dr.S. Jeyakumar has special designs for Midterm VSI 2019 at Coimbatore in June. With the Vascular Trainees in mind, the concentration at midterm will be more on Recent Advances, Trials, Guidelines and Vascular Medicine. The competition for the Annual Champions Trophy is bound to be tough and of the level of International Board of Examinations in Vascular Surgery.

VSICON 2019 will have the following highlights

- Rapid Fire Sessions for PG's.

- Trouble Shooting in Endovascular Surgery.

- Junior Research Award Sessions for Trainees.

- Senior Research Award Sessions for VSI Members.

- SAAVS-VSI Guidelines on Vascular Trauma.

- VSI Guidelines on Management of Leg Ulcers.

- WFVS Symposium

- Overseas Faculty from ANZSVS, SAARC-SVS, Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland, South Africa, ESVS, Japan, SVS-USA WFVS.

Time has come and the efforts have been initiated for the Vascular Society of India to present our statistics and approaches to the spectrum of Vascular diseases in the Eastern World. We need active contributions from our members to make a strong statement. The volume of Vascular work and quality needs to be projected to the world. These moves our bound to draw attention of the Fraternity and Industry paving way for more clinical trials and research in India.

IJVES has grown remarkably under the watchful eyes of our ambitious, hardworking Dr. Kal Suresh, Chief Editor and its board of members. VSI members will make it more popular with their contributions.

Golden Era of Vascular Society of India is on the horizon. Let us all welcome It with our unity and dynamic contribution to IJVES, Registries, the VSI-Hand Book of Vascular Surgery and all our VSI activities.
